Despite the draw, Jeonbuk finished on top of Group G standings with 13 points. Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds were the second team to qualify for the last-16 stage of the tournament with 10 points. Beijing Guoan came in third with seven points, while Buriram ended at the bottom of the table with four points. With Pedro Junior serving a one-game suspension, veteran Andres Tunez was the only foreign player to take the field for the Thunder Castle. In the other group match, Urawa Red Diamonds came strong as they finished second in Group G after defeating Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan FC 3-0.
